Counselling Fellowship Position

Dr Catherine Olweny graduated from Flinders University of South Australia in 1999. She undertook anaesthesia training at Monash Health and completed a fellowship in paediatric anaesthesia at the Royal Children’s Hospital Melbourne. She has been a staff paediatric anaesthetist at the Royal Children’s Hospital since 2010. Dr Olweny currently also holds a position with the Campus Mental Health Strategy as a Senior Project Officer in Trauma Informed Preventive Care.
Dr Olweny developed an interest in clinical hypnosis which saw her travel to Paris to train in the use of hypnosis in anaesthesia and procedural paediatrics. She completed a diploma in clinical hypnosis through the South Australian Society of Hypnosis in 2018 and practices as a clinical hypnotherapist specialising in procedural anxiety and preparation, specific phobia and chronic pain. She has a particular interest in working with children and adolescents with anxiety disorders both as a counsellor and a clinical hypnotherapist.
Dr Olweny is currently undertaking a Master of Counselling at Monash University and is completing supervised professional counselling at VDHP.
